Dental implants provide an excellent method by which your dentist can replace your missing teeth. At Victoria Road Dental Clinic in Ruislip we always recommend replacing any missing teeth you may have as soon as you have lost them, to protect your general and dental health. In many cases implants are the best option.
When we lose a tooth we don’t just lose the visible crown, but also the root as well. Dental implants are the only way to replace missing tooth roots, forming a direct contact with your jaw bone. Your dentist can then attach false teeth – crowns, dentures, or a bridge – to abutments on top of your implants, restoring not just your beautiful smile but also full functionality to your jaw.
The placement of dental implants requires minor oral surgery, carried out here in the comfort of our Ruislip practice by an experienced implant dentist. The number of implants required will depend upon how many teeth need replacing, along with the density of your jaw bone and your own personal preference.
In some cases, when all teeth need replaced in one jaw, the implant dentist at our Ruislip clinic can carry out a procedure known as “All-on-4”. As the name suggests, this involves placing just four dental implants to replace all the teeth in that jaw. This option is often used in patients with low bone density, avoiding the need for a bone graft.
Implant placement is intricately planned so that the minimal number of implants can support the maximum number of teeth, whilst withstanding the natural forces created when we bite and chew food.
In traditional implant placement, between six and eight dental implants are needed to support a full-arch bridge. Your dentist will discuss which method will work best in your case when you come to our Ruislip practice for an implant consultation.
